Founder's Message
Kidney failure is a prevalent condition in Sudan, with a significant number of patients suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD), estimated to be at least 6,000 individuals. It is worth noting that due to the lack of accurate statistics, the actual number of affected patients is likely much higher than the reported figure. Every day, approximately 11 new ESRD cases are registered in Khartoum, necessitating access to dialysis treatment. Sadly, there is currently a minimum waiting time of two months to secure a dialysis chair in Khartoum, and the waiting period is expected to be even longer in other cities. Consequently, many patients are at high risk of succumbing to complications associated with renal failure during this waiting period.
In light of the dire situation faced by renal patients in Sudan, I have been contemplating a more practical approach to alleviate their suffering. Engaging in educational activities during my visits to Sudan has been helpful, but I consider it a minuscule contribution. After extensive discussions, I have determined that the most effective solution is to establish a charitable kidney center. To this end, I established the Habib Alrahman Charity Foundation (HACF) in Sudan several years ago. After two years of dedicated work, we have successfully acquired a 3000 square meter plot of land in Alhijra, Omdurman, generously provided by Alaoghaf. The construction of phase I is currently underway and is expected to be inaugurated in early 2020.
The HACF kidney center aims to offer accessible and free dialysis, as well as future transplant and other renal services, to the underprivileged and impoverished renal patients desperately seeking assistance. Our long-term objective is to establish a model system that upholds the standards of renal care in Sudan. The center will be managed by a nephrologist trained in the United States and will operate under the complete supervision of HACF, facilitating the transfer of expertise from the USA to Sudan. I firmly believe that we have a religious, moral, and ethical duty to aid our distressed and suffering renal patients in Sudan. I sincerely invite you to join this noble project and contribute to its resounding success.
